Jacobus van den Kerkhoff lived in Zwolle at Genestetstraat 21. He was born on October 10th, 1898, to Petrus Marinus van den Kerkhoff and Cornelia Alida Lobensteijn and was married to Breggitha Engelina Stam (May 29th, 1893, Den Helder – December 9th, 1977, Sassenheim). Jacobus worked as a carpenter and was a district manager for the General Construction Workers' Union. As a trade unionist, he refused to cooperate with the Dutch Workers' Front (NAF), established by the Germans. For this reason, he was arrested on May 4th, 1942, and transferred to the Beekvliet hostage camp in Sint Michelsgestel. In reprisal for sabotage activities in the east of the country, he was taken, along with two hostages from the camp in Haaren and twelve prisoners from Camp Amersfoort, to the Den Treek-Henschoten forest near the Pyramid of Austerlitz between Woudenberg and Zeist. executed. There had been no trial prior to the execution.
