Gunner
Unit:
Royal Regiment of Artillery (Tunbridge Wells)

October 26th, 1944
“During the evening of 15 May 1944, Gunner Keel was a signaller with the FOO party from this regiment in support of the leading party in an attack by the 2nd Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment on point 50, south of Cassino.
As soon as the leading company moved from the start line they were subjected to shelling and machine gun fire from several points. Two signallers of the FOO party were wounded. Gunner Keel attended the wounded men under fire and opened up comunications.
Subsequently when the advance was continued, still under fire, Gunner Keel manhandled a complete 21 set and large 85 amp hour accumulator unaided to the objective and again opened communication. As a result of this action badly needed fire support was given. Throughout the action Gunner Keel showed complete disregard to danger and his own personal safety.”
