"Distinguished himself by courageous conduct against the enemy, after having been sent through the lines into the occupied Netherlands by canoe with his transmitter equipment on 10 April 1945 as a radio operator-paratrooper, for which he had been trained in England. Despite enemy countermeasures, he succeeded in sending autographic messages very quickly from his assigned station until his liberation on 4 May of the following year."
