Awarded for defeating a Soviet breakthrough attempt while serving as part of Kampfgruppe Griesbach. On the 26.01.1945 a group of Soviet infantry managed to occupy the road near Pishma but were driven off by Oberleutnant Simons, who commanded a force of only 13 men and a captured cannon. Despite their tiny size they managed to clear the road of the Soviets.
