Biography

Robert Heckmann began his military career at young age as Francs tireurs et partisans (FTP) partisan.

Took part in Stage 145A at Ringway from 2nd to 21st December 1944 (earned his parachute brevet on the 10th) and in operation 'Amherst' from 4th April 1945 with 17/HQ Squadron, 4th SAS. He was killed in action on 9th April 1945 at Gieten, the Netherlands and was buried in Memorial S.A.S at Sennecey-le-Grand. His remains were reburied in the family grave at Pont-à-Mousson on 24 September 1949.
