Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Sergeant
Unit:
1st King's Dragoon Guards, 1st Armoured Division, British Army
Awarded on:
August 19th, 1943
Recommendation:
"On April 27th, 1943. PONT DU FAHS road area PO385 Sgt. REDFEARN was Troop Sgt. of the leading troop going down to the PONT DU FAHS road. A minefield was met and the armoured car of another troop knocked out, and the crew pinned to the ground by fire.
Sgt. REDFEARN by personally lifting many mines under fire got through the minefield on the right flank and, with two other troops that had got through the gap, led the attack on the blockhouse and neighbouring strongpoints which the enemy were holding; as the cars closed in the enemy fled into the mountains, many killed by Besa fire before they could reach cover. Orders were then received to clear the foothills to the East. Another minefield was encountered and while removing the mines Sgt. REDFEARN trod on a S-mine and was severely wounded in the legs. The excellent progress made this day was largely due to Sgt. REDFEARN."
