During the eight-day defense of Elisawe,towka Hauptmann Höhne and his Bataillon held the line against Soviet forces that were trying to penetrate into the assembly area of the 60. Infanterie-Division (mot) (which was preparing to counterattack at the time). In doing so Höhne prevented a hostile breakthrough towards Drashkowka and the road/railway line Konstantinowka—Sslawjansk, the latter a vital lifeline for the left wing of 17. Armee. He would be awarded the Knight’s Cross for this achievement.
