"On 26 Apr 45 an assault crossing of the river Leda near POSTHAUSEN was launched by the squadron of the 10th Inf Mot Bn under very heavy enemy artillery and mortar fire. L. Sgt HAN was in charge of the section of sappers manning the assaults boats. The crossing was effected in face of the enemy on the far bank, only 70 meters away. On one occasion whilst crossing the river, the boat containing this NCO was hit by enemy machine-gun fire causing several casualties. Not withstanding this he took the boat to enemy side of the river and discharged the infantry who were not wounded. He successfully transported the whole section of infantry across the river, together with supplies of ammunition, including bringing back wounded personnel, for a period of sic hours. After this he assisted another engineer section to build a Class 5 raft. L/Sgt HAN by his courage, determination and devotion to duty safeguarded the lives of the occupants of the assault boat which was hit by machine-gun fire and set an excellent example to the section which he commanded."
