Pieter Johannes de Ru served as Sergeant Pilot on the Dornier Do 24 X-29 of the Dutch Royal Navy Air Force when the plane was forced to make an emergency landing in the Javasea on February 11th, 1942. Pieter de Ru was one of the three crewmembers who failed to escape when the plane went down.
