“On 21st November 1941 in the attack of the 2nd Battalion on ‘TIGER’ from the Tobruk perimeter, CSM McKinley found himself at the assault of the intermediate objective of ‘JILL’ in command of the forward (Right) company. All five officers were killed or wounded.
With conspicuous gallantry and coolness he continued to direct the capture of ‘JILL’ and the assault of three enemy posts to the left.
Thereupon with the remnants of the company, a weak platoon strong, he continued the attack on the final objective finally attaining the forward outskirts of ‘TIGER’.
Under continuous heavy enemy fire of all kinds this Warrant officer’s example of leadership and gallantry throughout contributed largely to the success of the operation”
