"For his excellent and capable work as Staff Captain of 14th Brigade up to the 16th July 1917, when he went as Brigade Major to the 15th Australian Infantry Brigade.
He showed great capability in the difficult administration work of the Brigade during the operations in the Somme area throughout the winter of 1916-1917, and subsequently acted as Brigade Major very successfully during the period of the fighting in the Hindenburg Line by Bullecourt in May 1917.
The cheerful way in which he carried out his work was very helpful."
