Biography

Vice Admiral Jean-Marie Charles Abrial took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk and was captured. He eventually joined the Vichy regime and was captured during the liberation of France and condemned by court martial for ten years forced labour yet given amnesty in the mid-50's. He was also forfeited any entitelement in relation to his Legion d'Honneur and forbidden to wear his decorations. He was reinstituted with the LdH by decret of 16 December 1960.
