"Dropped by parachte into PERAK, Federate Malay States, with two other officers and two CHINESE. This sortie was one of extreme hazard. He quickly gained the confidence of the local CHINESE who assisted in guiding the party away from nearby enemy posts and into saer jungle. He overcame obstruction of natives and passed out valuable intelligence until the end of August 1945, when BRITISH troops occupied MALAYA. His location was one of particular danger; on 24th July with Major GRAY he was ambushed by a JAPANESE patrol while waiting for reinforcements to be dropped from aircraft, but with great coolness succeeded in escaping, thereby avoiding a stoppage in the flow of intelligence."
