"Pfc. Jack S. ATKINSON, Company H, 415th Infantry, took up an exposed position in a second-story window and inflicted heavy losses with accurate fire from his machine gun on counter-attacking troops. The enemy detected his position, but he refused to abandon his gun although under a barrage of sniper, bazooka, panzerfaust and machine gun fire. As a result of his coolness in the face of grave danger, Pfc. ATKINSON single-handedly repulsed a serious threat to his unitís position."
