"EVANS was captured in NORTH AFRICA in Jan 42.
Soon afterwards he escaped from his German escort but was recaptured at BARCE on 3 Feb 42.
At Camp 53 (MACERATA) at the time of the Italian Armistice, EVANS walked out on 15 Sep 43 with one companion and made his way to MONTAPPONE, where they remained until Jan 44. They then moved to GROTTAZZOLINA, and the work EVANS did in helping to colect P/W for the mass evacuation which took place in May 44 was noticed by an officer.
EVANS reached TERMOLI on 25 May 44."
