Pilot Officer

"This officer was the pilot of an aircraft which attacked Mannheim one night in September, 1943. Whilst over the target area, the aircraft was hit by machine-gun fire from a fighter. A fire broke out near the flare chute, while the inter-communication system was rendered unserviceable. Pilot Officer Lowe coolly withheld his attack, however, until the fire had been extinguished and the intercommunication system had been repaired. He then made a second run over the target and pressed home a vigorous attack. His coolness, courage and determination set a fine example."
Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC)
