Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Lieutenant-Colonel
Unit:
80th (The Scottish Horse) Medium Regiment, 1st Army Group Royal Artillery (AGRA), V Corps, British Army
Awarded on:
September 28th, 1945
"Lieutenant Colonel's MURRAY's regiment, the 80th Medium Regiment (SCOTTISH HORSE), has been in support of the 46, 56 and NZ Divisions during the forcing of the GOTHIC LINE (1 September - 31 December 1944). All the Divisions, particularly 56 Division have paid tribute to the effective support which has always been available. This has been achieved by deploying his regiment very far forward. On many occasions the recces for gun and OP area have been carried out under shell fire, but Colonel MURRAY has shown complete disregard for his personal safety. The good liaison between this regiment and the infantry was most marked and the high standard produced is entirely due to Colonel MURRAY's drive and enthusiasm. His personal example throughout has been a great inspiration and I strongly recommend him for the award of the O.B.E."

Posthumously awarded
Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)
Efficiency Medal / Territorial Decoration
