"Distinguished himself through courageous action against the enemy on 10 October 1951 during an attack on Hill 905 (Mundung–Ni–Valley – North Korea).
Assigned to the front attack platoon, which soon came under heavy enemy mortar fire and immediately suffered a large number of casualties, he helped carry away the wounded without regard for his own safety.
After assisting three wounded comrades and returning to the front to retrieve others, he was fatally struck by a mortar shell."
