"Distinguished himself through courageous conduct against the enemy, beginning underground operations immediately after the capitulation of the Netherlands in 1940 and operating in a versatile manner in this area.
He also cared for and sheltered people in hiding and Jews, and acted as one of the most active members of the intelligence service. As a result, intelligence obtained through his efforts, often under difficult and dangerous circumstances, was of great value to the Allied war effort.
Thus, partly through his work, he laid the foundation for one of the most important intelligence groups working for the Dutch government in London."
