He has distinguished himself by courageous conduct in combat against the enemy in the early morning of May 10 when he, belonging to a small platoon of the Veergroep 2C which as a result of the sudden attack by hostile paratroops, had been ordered to defend the immediate surroundings of the port of Moerdijk in order to cover the the crossing of this veergroep towards Willemsdorp, notwithstanding heavy short range enemy fire, held out until he was eventually killed.
