Citation:
"Distinguished himself by acts of bravery in combat against the enemy. After the first platoon of the armoured car company had carried out a raid on Japanese-occupied Soebang on 2 March 1942, Lieutenant Cox's platoon was ordered to re-enter Soebang.
Lieutenant Cox was well aware that the very light armoured cars he commanded were ill-suited for an attack on a target that could only be reached by road and in convoy, while the defenders had already been alerted by the first platoon's attack and had had the opportunity to bring their anti-tank guns into position. Nevertheless, he placed himself at the head of his platoon with his armoured car without hesitation, believing that this was the best way to lead. (Experience had taught him that the armoured cars' radio sets were unreliable).
During the attack, which began with fanaticism and was vigorously pursued, Lieutenant Cox's fighting vehicle was hit by a direct hit (presumably from a 7.5 cm field gun) and this brave officer was killed."
