Rank:
Lance-Corporal
Unit:
1st Battalion The Leicestershire Regiment, British Indian Army
Awarded on:
November 7th, 1939
Citation:
"On 21 August 1939, in the operation of 1st Battalion, The Leicestershire REgiment on the Bodari Sar in Waziristan Lance-Corporal Rawson was with a section of the forward Picquet, which was atacked and suffered seven casualties. Being wounded himself, he assisted in taking back Private Newton.
He turned back in the face of heavy fire to drive off the enemy and, firing at point blank range, killed one man. He held them in check until the rest of his section had succeeded in getting Private Newton away.
But for his action in holding the enemy in check regardless of his own wound or safety, it is doubtful whether the rescue would have been effected."
