On 5 August, 1941 Roy Langlois crashlanded Wellington II, W5421 PHG on Deurne Airport after experiencing engine problems. Intially he evaced capture but was taken prisoner of war in Brussels.
Langlois was sent out to Stalag Luft III and participated in th Great Escape and was No 87 out of the tunnel. He was recaptured soon thus avoiding being executed by the Gestapo.

Citation:
"Flying Officer Langlois has served with No.6 (Bomber) Squadron in Palestine for two years. During this period he has answered twelve emergency calls for air assistance. He has been in action against the enemy on 20 occasions.
In spite of his long period of service in this country, sometimes under very trying conditions, his courage, morale and devotion to duty have always been of a very high order.
He is a most skilful pilot, quick to grasp a situation and he can always be relied upon to take a resolute and effective action when in contact with the enemy.
At Umm Al Fahm on the 31st January 1938 he inflicted six casualties during a major action against a large armed Arab band. He has done uniformly excellent work in avtion throughout the year.
During the major action at Bani Ha?Im on 18th December 1938, he repeatedly pressed home his attacks at a very low altitude, inflicting many casualties.
Since that date he has taken part in further actions with considerable success."
