"Until wounded in action on the 27 Nov 41 this officer commanded his Regiment throughout ten days fighting in an exemplary manner. Besides exercizing the utmost control throughout his Regiment he was again and again an example to all ranks for his personal bravery and cool-headedness. On the 22 Nov 41, at SIDI REZIGH Aerodrome, and again on 23 Nov during the enemy attack on the South African Brigade, this officer stood outside his tank under intensive shell fire and during a tank versus tank action, rallying and exorting those around him. During every action he maintained complete control of his command and by skilfull handling inflicted considerable losses on the enemy."
