Citation:
"On the 12 Apr 45 1st Tp 'B' Sqn RCD supported by 4th Tp 'B' Sqn was sent to recce woods in general area of HOONHORST. As the Tp came to the Y rds at MR 983334 it came under hy MG fire from woods at MR 982334. 1st Tp adv directly to the woods firing heavily and the tp fire caused the enemy to break and about a dozen were observed running from their trenches trying to escape to the Northwest.

Cpl Conway dismounted and carrying a Sten gun dashed into the wood and forced 13 enemy out of their trenches. He then continued the chase after the enemy seen running Northwest. Although he was no longer under the sp of the armd car's guns he caught up with a gp of 10 enemy and forced them to surrender. During this time he was under fire from an enemy LMG located north of his posn. As soon as his prisoners had been taken back to the armd Cs, Cpl Conway raced back to his sct C, picked up a rifle and kneeling in the open engaged the enemy LMG.
Hi rifle fire was so accurate that the LMG stopped firing. After he had indicated it's posn to his Tp Ldr it was engaged by the 37mm cannon of an armed C and knocked out by a direct hit and the crew of three killed. About this time Cpl Conway was wounded in the thigh by a large piece of concrete from a post that he been hit beside him, but he continued firing till his rifle was empty and the remainder of his tp had completed it's task.

This NCO's great bravery, initiative, dash and inspiring example were of the highest standard and because of his gallantry and prompt action the task of his sqn was greatly aided that day.
His conduct in the face of the enemy was an inspiration to his troop and in keeping with the highest traditiosn of his Regt."
