"During night 9th-10th April 1945, while clearing mines from the lanes to the River Senio for Crocodiles from 51st Royal Tank Regiment, under heavy enemy mortar and machine gun fire he worked very hard inspiring by his example the remainder of his platoon. Whilst carrying out his task he was seriously wounded by a mine and lost one leg".
