"Lance Serjeant Iwaszczuk throughout the Italian Campaign has been employed as a troop signals NCO, he showed unusual courage in the battles for Monte Cassino, where without a break, he watched the line communications and when the maintenance of this proved impossible. He operated the wireless set together with the wireless operator for three whole days, under the heaviest enemy artillery and mortar fire. Later in August 1944, during the attack against S.Lucia and Scapezano, he carried away the wounded commander of 2 Battery, 2 Carpathian Field Regiment under enemy artillery fire from the observation post at Roncitella.

In the attack of 2nd Battalion against the river Senio defences on 9th 10th April 1945, he not only maintained communications for the forward observation officer. With whom he remained all the time, but with outstanding courage when occasion arose took part in hand to hand fighting with the enemy. After the crossing of the river Senio and the capture of the western flood bank he personally captured 3 Germans, in addition throughout the action and under enemy artillery, mortar and Spandau fire. He personally repaired damaged lines between the forward observation officer and the Battery Commander. By his great personal courage, devotion and initiative he was an example to the men."
