"For gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 25 November 1944 in France. On that date, Technical Sergeant Green, a rifle platoon sergeant, assumed command of a platoon during an attack when the platoon leader became a casualty. Exposing himself to the raking fire, he exhorted and encouraged his men, personally charging an enemy pillbox and destroying the machine gun emplacement with hand grenades, thereby making possible the successful accomplishment of the assigned mission. The personal bravery, aggressiveness, and sincere devotion to duty displayed by Technical Sergeant Green were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army."
