Biography

Douglas was born on 8th December 1924 at 30 Clarence Road, Clewer Within, Windsor. Son of William and Annie Mumford, of Windsor, Berkshire.

Douglas landed in France on D-Day and was slightly injured three days afterwards. He returned to England to be patched up in the hospital. After his recovery he was (presumably) deployed to Belgium where his unit advanced to the Netherlands. On December 8 1944, he celebrated his 20th birthday and he wrote his last letter to his parents on December 28, 1944. He was killed in a bombing raid in Blitterswijck on January 2, 1945.
