“The Führer Awards the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Major d.R. Hans Ritter von Schmidt, Leader of an Infanterie-Regiment:

Major d.R. Hans Ritter von Schmidt… distinguished himself through his bravery and decisiveness during the offensive battles along the Oskol whilst serving as the commander of a Vorausabteilung. Despite tough enemy resistance he managed to establish contact with another attacking Kampfgruppe that was coming from a different direction. This bold thrust thus resulted in the encirclement of strong enemy forces.”
