Biography
Willem Frederik Hoogewerff lived in Hilversum at 45 Beethovenlaan with his parents. He was unmarried and a student of chemistry at the Technical High School in Delft. Under the pseudonym Wim Drop, he participated in the resistance and was known in Rotterdam resistance circles as “Indische Wim.” Wim served as a soldier in the Dutch army during the May days in 1940. After a difficult journey through Belgium, France and Italy, he reached England, where the Special Assignments Bureau trained him as an operator for the National KP. On Sept. 21, 1944, he and three others were dropped near Berkel (Mission Coursing). In Rotterdam, Hoogewerff taught about three hundred members of the resistance how to handle weapons and explosives as well as combat and sabotage techniques. Later he was given organizational tasks, but soon after he was arrested in the Schiekade 81 building by posting SDs. The previous day, this contact address had been found with the courier of marconist Richard Barmé (26-04-1923 Küllenhahn). After his arrest on Feb. 3, 1945, he made an attempt to shoot Otto Haubrock, a subordinate of counterintelligence chief Joseph Schreieder, with an undetected 12 mm Colt, but the German was able to extract the weapon from him. In retaliation for the attack on SS-Befehlshaber Hanns Albin Rauter on March 6, 1945 near Woeste Hoeve, he was shot. Along with Barmé, among others.
