Biography

Daniel was born on February 27 1918 in Anyox British Columbia, the son of John William O誰eill (Irish) and Margaret Jane O誰eill nee McKinnon of Allenby British Columbia. They were married on July 23 1906 in Vancouver. He was married on September 12 1942 in London England with Phyllis O誰eill nee Vidgen of London. His brothers were John William and Joseph Raymond O誰eill and his sisters were Mrs. Mary Cecilia Harman, Mrs. Margaret Patricia Hillis and Florence Eileen O誰eill.

He was a store clerk and member of the Catholic Church. His sports were baseball, basketball, softball and tennis.

He enlisted on December 28 1940 in Calgary and the date is not known when he went thereafter overseas to the UK.

Daniel was killed in action on Wednesday February 3 1943 age 24 due to a crash near Leusden, between the Valleikanaal and the railway line. His other fallen RCAF crew members were W/O II William M. Murdoch age 21 in grave 13-5-82, WO II William O. Powell age 22 in grave 13-5-83, F/O John I. MacKenzie age 26 in grave 13-5-87 and F/Sgt Arley H. Thiessen age 24 in grave 13-5-84. The fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were P/O Denis H. Smith age 22 in grave 13-5-86 and P/O Derek G. De Garis age 21 in grave 13-5-85. And the fallen RAF crew member was Sgt Ronald F. Evans age 26 in grave 13-5-81.

The names of the 8 fallen crew members are inscribed on the monument in Leusden.

He served with the 214 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
