"After preparations had been made for the destruction of 37 warehouses in Saradan (filled with ammunition, bombs, grenades, mines and explosives), he carried out the destruction order without any other assistance at 1800 hours on 1 March 1942, blowing up 32 warehouses in two hours, at great risk to his own life. The remaining five warehouses (three of which were empty and the other two contained a total of approximately 7 tonnes of trotyl) had become inaccessible to him due to the resulting forest fire and the grenades that exploded as a result.Thanks to his extraordinary attitude and exceptional achievements, he single-handedly rendered approximately 25% of the ammunition and other supplies present on Java at that time unusable."
