"Distinguished himself through courageous action against the enemy on 10 May 1940 as group commander during the street fighting in Loosduinen, leading his group in a very bold and exemplary manner.
Furthermore, on 11 May, during the fighting near the Ockenburg estate, where the enemy had entrenched itself, and after his own units had been taken back after some time, he remained there under enemy fire in order to carry a seriously wounded sergeant on his back and bring him to safety.
In addition, by repeatedly volunteering to carry out dangerous assignments and setting an excellent example."
