Friedrich Berger, who joined the Kriegsmarine as cadet of the 354 navy battalion, was transferred to the concentration camp system in January 1945. He was subsequently appointed as camp guard at outer camps of Neuengamme concentration camp: Meppen-Dalum and Meppen-Versen, in 1945. He was deported from the United States in 2021 and sent back to Germany.
