Citation:
"On the night of 17/18 April 1945, Sgt. Wood was in command of the second canoe ona patrol on the R. IRRAWADDY on the area of CHAK. The object of the patrol was to intercept and destroy any enemy craft encountered. About 03.00 hours a large pontoon was sighted carrying a 150 m/m gun and upwards of 100 Japanese. The patrol closed to within about 20 yards range, firing with 2 Vickers K MG's and succeeded in setting the craft on fire. They then circled it and continued to fire until their ammuntion was nearly expended. About 15 minutes later the craft blew up and sank. Throughout the action Sgt. Woods displayed great courage and determination and his coolness and sound judgment were a considerable factor in the success of the operation. When withdrawing from the area the patrol was fired on by L.M.G. from the bank and Sgt. Wood turned back to engage the target and silence it."
