"Lieut. CRANE was captured in NORWAY on 22 April 40. After recovering from his wounds he was imprisoned in GERMANY.
This officer was outstanding for the organisation of secret communication with the War Office from January 44 to April 45. His security was perfect; only a handful of officers were aware of the work he was doing, but those few have paid tribute to his untiring efferts.
Lieut. CRANE's smart appearance and unshakeable cheerfulness throughout his 5 years of captivity were remarkable.
He has been most stroongly recommended by the Senior British Officer of his camp."
