Biography

Enlisted in the Navy, at the school of mechanics in 1923, he obtained a license two years later.

After various campaigns on different vessels and a 2-year campaign in the Far East, he is patented submariner.

He embarked in 1938 on the Rubis submarine as a master mechanic and was on this vessel when he joined Free France in June 1940.

An exemplary fighter, remarkably cool, he is, according to his leader, Commander Rousselot, one of the pillars of the Rubis crew.

Promoted to chief engineer on July 1, 1940, chief of machinery, Justin Dangel participated until 1945 in 28 construction war missions, notably on the coasts of Norway and France. He was promoted to master in June 1945 and left the Navy in 1946.

After the war, he was the manager of a café-tabac in Harmeville in Haute-Marne, where he was a municipal councilor.
