Biography

Evan Hayton, a private in the 6th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry, was only 20 years old when he and fellow private William Barlow, aged 21, were captured by German forces on June 8, 1944, during the early assaults following the D-Day invasion. Both men were tragically executed at Château d'Audrieu. Evan's mother had passed away in Southport in 1930, and his father worked as a farm produce merchant.
