Private Barlow served with 'D' Company 6th Durham Light Infantry. He was part of the Allied invasion forces in Normandy, but was taken prisoner by the Waffen-SS days later. Barlow was subsequently murdered at Chateau d'Audrieu. He was from Worksop, Nottinghamshire. He died aged 21.
