Biography

Robert was born on january 1 1922 in Lansdowne, Ontario, the son of William Arnold Moulton and Myrtle A. Moulton nee Webster of Lansdowne. They were married on October 16 1916 in Lansdowne. His sisters were Helen M. and Francis A. Moulton and two sisters already died before.

He was a farmer at his father’s farm and member of the United Church. His sports were softball, skating, hockey, swimming and boxing.

He enlisted on November 13 1941 in Ottawa and he went thereafter on November 4 1942 overseas to the UK.

Robert was killed in action on Tuesday June 29 1943 age 21 due to a crash at the Voorweg in Rijsoord before or after an attack on Cologne in Germany. The other fallen RCAF crew member was F/O Philip J. Pascoe age 31 in grave LL 1-47-48. The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were Sgt Frank Wheeldon age 23 in grave LL-1-47-48, Sgt Horace H. Gentle in grave LL-1-47-48, P/O Christopher Wood age 24 in grave LL-1-47-48 and Sgt Joseph Reffin age 30 in grave LL-1-47-48. The other RAF crew member F/Sgt R.G. Storr survived the crash and he became then a prisoner of war and he survived the war then.

On his headstone: HE GAVE HIS ALL FOR THE CAUSE OF LIBERTY

His name is mentioned together with the other fallen crew members at a monument at the former crash site near the underpass to the Voorweg and slanting to the house at the Rijksstraatweg no 312 in Rijsoord.

He served with the 100 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force
