At the request of the municipality of Ridderkerk, the Royal Netherlands Air Force wreck removal service conducted an investigation into the exact location of the crashed aircraft in order to decide whether the wreckage could be excavated. The municipality of Ridderkerk decided not to do so and instead to erect the “Lancaster Monument” at the site. The monument was unveiled on 21 September 2002.
In 2016, one of the propellers was recovered and placed in the park in front of the monument.
