"Major NORMAN was parachuted into FRANCE on 31st October, 1942, as W/T operator to an important circuit in the PARIS area. He worked there for eight months, and in addition to his W/T work was second in command and sub-organiser of the circuit. In this capacity he organised and directed a number of parachute receptions, and undertook the dangerous task of transporting and distributing the arms received. He also took part in sabotage operations against enemy rail communications.

In June, 1943, Major NORMAN was arrested by the Gestapo, and after spending over a year in FRESNES prison, was deported to Germany, where he was executed at MAUTHAUSEN concentration camp in September, 1944.

For his courage, self-sacrifice and devotion to duty his clandestine mission in FRANCE it is recommended that Major NORMAN be posthumously awarded a Mention in Despatches."
