    "On the 4 Nov 11944 Sjt BALL was the driver of a vehicle in the evacuation of DUTCH civilians from the village of BERGHAREN, EAST of NIJMEGEN.
    During the operation the village was contunually under heavy shell fire, and a number of civilian casualties were caused. By his calm courage and example Sjt BALL was largely responsible for the prevention of panic and his efficient discharge of his duties in loading and despatching his own and other vehicles materially reduced the number of casualties.
    On several occasions Sjt BALL was responsible for the evacuation of civilians in HOLLAND under shell and small arms fire. He invariably displayed great courgae and determination to do everything possible for the civilians, and was throughout the campaign an inspiration to the remainder of his unit."
