For heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on 25 December 1944, in Belgium. Pinned down at Milenes by enemy artillery and small arms fire, a critical shortage of rifle ammunition developed within the 3d Battalion. With three other men from the ammunition and pioneer platoon Private Davis ignored personal safety to hand-carry the ammunition to the riflemen. He loaded himself to capacity with 30 caliber bandoleers and traversed 800 yards of open terrain under enemy observation over a route subjected to mortar and small arms fire. Private Davis' perseverance and courageous spirit in the completion of this successful mission enabled his battalion to hold its objective and reflect highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces. Entered military service from Elizabeth, New Jersey.
