Illinois State Monument Cheatham Hill

This memorial on Cheatham Hill in the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield commemorates the troops from Illinois, involved in the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain and especially the fight for Cheatham Hill.
The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain took place on 27 June 1864. The Confederates repulsed an Union attack. The Union lost about 3000 men (dead, wounded, missing of captured), the Confederates 1000.
