Union Trenches Hupp’s Hill

There were heavy fights for these trenches, constructed in autumn 1864, during the Battle of Cedar Creek.
The Battle of Cedar Creek took place on 19 October 1864 when Confederate forces attacked by surprise. The battle resulted in a Union victory. The Union lost 5,665 men (dead, wounded, missing or captured), the Confederates 2,910 men.
