Crash Location Wellington Z-1625

The Vickers Wellington Mk III with base nr Z-1625 departed for a bombardment mission at Essen on 31 October 1942 at 11.00 am from base Kirmington England.

After a successful attack on Essen, the Wellington Z-1625 of Pilot Henry John Brook and his crew flew back to England. The Wellington Z-1625 was intercepted around 2pm by a German FW 190 fighter piloted by Feldwebel Karl Bugaj of the 11th Staffel of Jagdgeschwader 11.

A fierce but short air fight followed and the Vickers Wellington Z-1625 crashed burning down. For Karl Bugaj it was his third victory.
