German Radar-station Eisbär

The German Eisbär radar-station near Sondel was part of a chain of stations which guarded the air from Denmark to Southern France. It was a station of the Himmelbett-system, with two Würzburg-Riese radars and one Freya-antenna.

The crew was about 400 soldiers. When the radar saw Allied bombers, they phoned the airforce base in Leeuwarden, where German fighters took off.

Nowadays the terrain is a camping. On display on the camping is a maquette of the station and some pieces of the equipment.
