French War Cemetery Acciarino

On 14 February 1855, the frigate La Sémillante departed from the port of Toulon to the Crimean War, with 380 sailors of the navy and 393 soldiers on board. In a heavy storm in the night of 15 February to 16 February, 1855 the ship ran on the rocks and perished with all passengers. It was one of the heaviest ship disasters in the history of the French navy.
Only 560 bodies were washed ashore on the coast. They were buried on the uninhabited island of Île Lavezzo in two cemeteries: Nécropole Nationale d'Acciarino and Nécropole Nationale d'Furcone de Lavezzi.
